2015 Alumni Award Recipients

2015 - FRIEND OF NEW BRUNSWICK
This award recognizes an alumna or alumnus who has made significant contributions to the culture, reputation, and/or economic prosperity of the Province of New Brunswick.

Robin Hanson

Robin Hanson
Class of ’72 (Civil Engineering Tech)

Robin Hanson’s passion for our province flows like a river. Following the success of Robin Hanson Construction, he and his wife began Roblynn Building Supplies out of their garage in 1978 before moving it to Restigouche Road. Today, the company operates as Roblynn Home Hardware Building Centre under the ownership and management of his daughter Tanya. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Robin owned and operated the popular Pioneer Princess Riverboat Tours from the Fredericton waterfront. The Fredericton Lighthouse, which he built, continues to stand as a beacon to his love of New Brunswick’s waterways. As a best-selling author, artist and environmental activist, Robin is a passionate environmental advocate through his work in protecting provincial watersheds and creating environmental awareness through playwriting and public art installations. Among his business and community awards, the most significant honour was receiving the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Award for Outstanding Contribution to Canada.


2015 - COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP
Aligning with HÂþ»­’s aspirations for our Robertson Institute for Community Leadership, this award recognizes an alumna or alumnus who has made significant contributions to New Brunswick communities.

Patrick King

Patrick King
Class of ’92 (Electronic Engineering Technology)

An active volunteer since high school, Patrick King is driven to make a difference in his community and communities across the country. For 17 years, he has been a member of the Kinsmen Club and has served in various local, regional and national leadership roles. He has served on the Board of Directors and raised funds for the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, Cystic Fibrosis Canada and the Portraits of Honour National Tour that supported soldiers and their families. Patrick has also volunteered his time to sit on committees for Cystic Fibrosis Canada and the NB Sports Hall of Fame. His community leadership has been recognized at both the local and national level. In 2012, Miramichiers named him their choice for the “Very Best” Award for Community Leadership and in 2013, he earned the Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award.


2015 - ENTREPRENEURSHIP 
This award recognizes an alumna or alumnus who has built a successful business.

Wesley (Wes) Armour

Wesley (Wes) Armour
Class of ’66 (Business Administration)

Just 22 years old when he took over the family business in 1968, Wes Armour grew a fleet of 10 vehicles and 11 employees into a freight empire of nearly 2,000 employees, more than 4,000 pieces of equipment, 26 freight terminals and over 600,000 square feet of public warehousing space. The Moncton-based Armour Transportation Systems remains privately held with annual revenue estimated at $285 million and has been named one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies Award for 11 consecutive years. Recognized for both his business savvy and commitment to social and environmental sustainability, Wes Armour has been named one of the Top 50 CEOs in Atlantic Canada, Entrepreneur of the Year by the Greater Moncton Chamber of Commerce and was inducted into the Junior Achievement New Brunswick Business Hall of Fame.


2015 - OUTSTANDING YOUNG ALUMNI 
This award recognizes an alumna or alumnus under the age of 35 who has demonstrated success in their chosen field.

Hannah McGee

Hannah McGee
Class of ’09 (Hotel, Restaurant and Culinary)

Hannah McGee paved the path from summer student to organizational leader with her people skills and positive attitude. She kicked off her career as a seasonal front-line employee at the famed Algonquin Resort in St. Andrews. After graduating HÂþ»­ as class valedictorian, she went on to complete a Bachelor of Applied Management in Hospitality and Tourism from the University of New Brunswick, in partnership with HÂþ»­. Following a brief departure from the province, she returned determined to make a career at the Algonquin Resort. When the resort re-launched, Hannah was promoted to a senior Human Resource leadership position bringing her skill, dedication and leadership to major initiatives across the organization. As a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) Candidate, she continues to be a rising star in Atlantic Canada’s hospitality industry.
