New scholarship offers support for children and grandchildren of HÂþ» Alumni
FREDERICTON – Thanks to a new scholarship, the children and grandchildren of New Brunswick Community College (HÂþ») alumni will have an easier time funding their education at HÂþ».
From the 2016/17 academic year onward, two scholarships, valued at $1,000 each, will be available to children and grandchildren of alumni. An initiative of the HÂþ» Alumni Association, the scholarship is funded by revenue from activities the Association has hosted over the past few years.
“The HÂþ» Alumni Association is made up of successful HÂþ» graduates all across New Brunswick, Canada and the globe,” said Emily McGill, Chair of the HÂþ» Alumni Association. “The Alumni Family Scholarship is our way to give back to HÂþ» students and future alumni by recognizing educational achievement and community giving. This gift will provide a great start for new students who will continue to make an impact on their communities and in their fields of work.”
“On behalf of HÂþ», I’d like to thank the HÂþ» Alumni Association for this gift which will go a long way in helping students focus on their studies, not their finances,” said Marilyn Luscombe, HÂþ» President and CEO. Nearly half of HÂþ»’s 4,000 students indicate finances are the biggest obstacle to overcome in pursuing their education.
“The creation of this scholarship is yet another example of how our tens of thousands of alumni help to transform lives and communities every day,” she said.
The scholarship is based on merit. The successful recipients will have demonstrated a commitment to community service as well as prior academic achievement. They will also have submitted a brief essay on what it means to attend HÂþ» as their parents or grandparents did.
The deadline to apply is October 31 each year and the scholarships will be distributed to the recipients at the bursary ceremony at their respective campuses.
