HÂþ» graduate pays it forward in honour of mentor

After graduating from New Brunswick Community College’s (HÂþ») Mechanical Technician program, Natasha Maillet knew she wanted to honour the memory of her mentor and encourage other women to pursue their dreams. The Ruth Hamilton Award is presented to a female student studying at HÂþ» Saint John in the Industrial Mechanics, Mechanical Engineering Technology or Mechanical Technician program.

“Ruth supported me through my education. She became a surrogate grandmother to my daughter and was always there when I needed someone to talk to,” said Maillet. “She was always encouraging and supportive of me as a working, single mother pursuing my education.”

This year, Maillet presented the Ruth Hamilton Award to Meaghan Bullock who is studying in the Mechanical Technician at HÂþ» Saint John Campus.

“Ruth was a strong independent woman and this award is meant to keep her memory alive and continue to encourage other women to pursue their dreams and become strong and independent as well,” said Maillet.
