The Human Resources Management (HRM) Certificate program enhances the skills and knowledge of HR professionals to help them meet the demands of the organizations in which they work. It addresses the major topics that are at the centre of the profession, presents the role of HR in an organization, and encompasses theoretical and operational aspects of HR Management.
Our face-to-face format brings you together with highly-skilled instructors and a diverse group of peers for lively, interactive sessions.
Students fulfilling all requirements will receive a Human Resources Management: Professional Development Certificate of Achievement.
(Courses may also be taken on an individual basis but preference is given to those enrolling in the complete program.)

Understanding Personalities and Team Building Participants will examine the benefits and risks of employee involvement strategies, explore decision-making and leadership styles, and become familiar with current team facilitation methods. They will identify various personalities in the workplace, and discover the normal differences in people concerning energy sources, information gathering, decision-making and lifestyle based on the current HR models. The course will include an opportunity to practice improved strategies for communicating, problem-solving, and decision-making. | Sep 11 - 12 |
Organizational Effectiveness This course outlines the relationship between organizational structures, business plans, and strategic human resource plans. Participants will explore methods of job analysis and design, preparation of job descriptions, and the impact of behavioural considerations on job design. | Oct 8 - 9 |
Employment Law This course is designed to familiarize participants with the legal issues relating to the employee-employer relationship and how laws impact human resources management. Participants are introduced to laws and regulations regarding human rights, employment standards, occupational health and safety, pay equity, labour relations, diversity, and harassment. | Nov 5 - 6 |
Training and Development Participants become familiar with the current issues surrounding training and development (T&D). Participants develop an understanding of the major elements of T&D including needs analysis, program design, training methods and evaluations of the effectiveness of an organization's T&D initiatives. | Dec 10 - 11 |
Retention Participants gain insight into the importance of the socialization process as a key retention factor. They explore human resource audit tools, the cost of losing an employee, and the components of a model orientation program. | Jan 7, 2025 |
Current Issues in HR The role of Human Resources is changing as a result of demographic challenges, diversity in the workplace, rapid development of technology, and changes in stakeholders' expectations. This course looks at two major current issues facing human resources management. | Jan 15 |
Labour Relations This course explores the effect of unions on the human resources management environment and ways to improve union-management relations. Participants become familiar with the structure of Canadian unions, principles related to collective bargaining, steps in negotiating a union contract, and techniques in dispute resolution. | Feb 11 - 12 |
Compensation and Benefits This course examines current compensation and benefits management theory and practice. Participants determine how wages and salaries are set, define the advantages and disadvantages of various incentive plans, and describe major Canadian laws' relation to employee security. Attract and Recruit This course addresses the entire recruitment and selection process, from selecting appropriate recruitment methods and strategies to developing the selection process. Participants apply advertising, systematic resume screening, current selection and interview techniques and explore assessment and evaluation methodologies. | Apr 8 - 9 |
Performance Management Systems Performance Management is critical to meeting an organization's business goals. Participants learn the importance of employee appraisal as well as issues that influence the selection of a performance appraisal system. The program is designed for HR professionals, preferably with two years’ work experience in the field, or for individuals with five or more years of work experience and an expressed interest in the HR field.

Payment of course fees will be due a week before the first class. We accept cash, debit, Visa, MasterCard, Money Order or cheque payable to New Brunswick Community College (HÂþ»).
Participants must be a domestic applicant (Permanent resident or Canadian Citizenship).
Withdrawal/Refunds: Requests for withdrawal from Continuing Education courses must be made within 20% of course duration. Refunds may take 4-6 weeks to process. An administrative fee may apply.
